The bench

Built from construction timber over three weekends, which is two weekends longer than planned and about average from what I gather.

What I would change

• Heavier. It walks under a hand plane and no amount of bracing has fixed that.
• A row of dog holes along the front edge, which I left out and have wanted every week since.
• A flatter top. I glued the slab up in two halves and the seam is a millimetre proud in the middle.

What I would keep

The height. Knuckle height with shoes on, which felt low while building it and has been right for everything since.
